About 300-400 activists attempted to break into a Ridglan Farms facility in Blue Mounds to rescue beagles on April 18.

Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said on social media that 300 to 400 people were “violently trying to break in” to the Ridglan Farms facility. Barrett also said the same people tried to “assault” deputies on the scene.

Ridglan Farms runs a breeding facility and agreed to shut down its breeding facility in 2026 after months of investigation by a special prosecutor.

Ridglan Farms sent out a statement condemning the action on Saturday and releasing info about the day’s events

“Today’s actions included the decision by one break-in participant to crash a vehicle through the gate of Ridglan Farms and then drive at high speed through the property nearly hitting several law enforcement officers, bystanders and a large capacity propane tank,” the statement said.

“Following today’s violence and suggestions by this same group to target farms and other research facilities in the future, we hope the U.S. legal system will hold Wayne Hsiung and his many accomplices fully accountable.”
