Home sales dipped slightly in August and inventory has increased slightly, signaling a possible return to a more traditional market cycle, according to a report from the Realtors Association of South Central Wisconsin. The Housing Market Stats report for September 2021 shows the number of home sales dipped slightly for August in the region with sales in Dane County only slightly up over last year. In the full region, total sales were 11,164 in 2020 versus 11,212 in 2021; in Dane County, home sales totaled 5,476 in 2021 versus 5,599 in 2020.

Prices throughout the region have continued to increase, gaining 12.4% with the majority of sales in Dane County. The year-to-date median price is $350,000 in Dane County. While the market remains competitive, the number of months of supply of houses has steadily increased in the region over 2020, creating better opportunities for buyers.
