The Knapp House at 130 E. Gilman St., could be redeveloped into a small boutique hotel with eight rooms, a café, and event space, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The historic home served as the state’s governor’s residence from 1885 through 1949. The university purchased it in 1950 after the governor’s residence was moved to Maple Bluff.

Now, Bob Klebba and David Waugh, who currently own the Mendota Lake House B&B on Gorham Street, have received permission to purchase the historic property and bring it back into service.
