Hong Kong Cafe on the corner of Regent and Mills streets is for sale — both the building and the business — after 34 years of operation, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. Terry Leung, who owns the establishment with his three brothers and sister, plans to retire following the sale. Hong Kong Cafe is Madison’s oldest Chinese restaurant with its original owners.
The building, located at 2 S. Mills St., is listed for $4.8 million — a price that includes the business, its inventory, and two apartments situated above the restaurant. Leung says business has been “so-so” with changing work styles since the pandemic, and fewer people bringing lunch to the office or seeking deliveries. He also cited labor shortages and increasing rents and property taxes among the restaurant’s recent challenges.
