A new Hmong-owned event venue and restaurant is slated to open in McFarland by Labor Day, The Capital Times reports. The Mekong will be the first of its kind in south-central Wisconsin.

The roughly 10,000-square-foot venue, housed in the former 5100 Bar space at 5100 Erling Ave., was designed by married co-owners Nengher N. Vang and Choua Her to serve Southeast Asian residents as well as the rest of the community, providing space for events as well as restaurant, catering, and bar services. It will have the capacity to host up to 350 people with two banquet halls — a smaller room with a 100-person capacity, and a larger one with a stage.

Vang and Her plan to serve food at the restaurant Thursday–Sunday and offer Hmong, Thai, Lao, and Vietnamese dishes. There will be live music and a variety of public-facing events.
