The U.S. Supreme Court has dismissed a major challenge to the Affordable Care Act, according to a report from the Associated Press. The Obama-era health care law was challenged by Republican-led states and the justices, by a 7–2 vote, left the entire law intact. The ruling asserts that Texas, other GOP-led states, and two individuals had no standing to bring their lawsuit in federal court because they could not show harm. It is estimated that 31 million people have health insurance because of the law that includes provisions to protect people with preexisting health conditions, a range of no-cost preventive services, and the expansion of the Medicaid program that insures lower-income people.
