The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is recommending new groundwater quality standards for 22 contaminants that it says will ensure safe drinking water for Wisconsin residents, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.

The recommendations begin a process for crafting rules to regulate facilities, practices, and activities that can affect groundwater in the state. Rules created by the process will apply to bottled water, approved agricultural chemicals, contamination site cleanup, regulation of solid waste landfills, and more.
