For the third quarter ending Sept. 30, Harley-Davidson reported a net income of $134 million (59 cents/share) compared with $183.6 million (78 cents/share) a year earlier. Retail sales of the company’s motorcycles decreased 1.3% year-to-year, with U.S. unit sales falling 5.2%, but international sales increased 7.6%. Still, sales have revved up since summer, and analysts are predicting a 9% to 10% jump in retail unit sales in the fourth quarter. Those results will be announced in January.
