WKOW is reporting that H&H Group Holdings, a Madison-based contractor, abruptly closed its doors last week. The closing affects dozens of employees who were apparently blindsided by the news and are still waiting for their last paycheck.
The WKOW report cited a Jan. 14 email provided by a former employee in which company president Bill Howe wrote that multiple divisions of the company had suspended operations, effective immediately, and would serve as notice of immediate layoffs for all employees.
Employees of H&H Group Holdings, H&H Electric, H&H Solar, H&H Plumbing, and H&H Construction Services are potentially impacted, but officials with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development say they have not received prior notice of the layoffs. While there are exceptions, companies with more than 50 employees are required to give 60 days’ notice to the state. When contacted by In Business in July 2019, H&H Group Holdings reported having 150 employees.
Following the layoffs, the state’s Equal Rights Division received one complaint about the company, and it has been assigned to an investigator.
