Gundersen Medical Foundation announced Monday that it has raised $5.2 million, the amount needed to construct an EmPATH unit, or Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing unit.

The unit, a first of its kind in Wisconsin, is expected to open in a few months on Emplify by Gundersen’s La Crosse medical campus in its Behavioral Health Unit, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.

The facility will be 5,000 square feet and provide care tailored for each patient experiencing a mental health crisis.
