February’s City Council vote to allow the demolition of three historic though well-worn Langdon Street area properties to make room for The Waterfront, a six-story, 71-unit building, has sparked an online movement by individuals looking to deem the entire Langdon Street area a historic district. The fervor could result in an investigation by the Landmarks Commission or planning staff into whether such a designation would have merit.
The Landmarks Commission opposed the Waterfront plan from Chris and Jeff Houden of Palisade Property, who scaled down their initial design, but the Plan Commission and City Council ignored the opposition and voted 15-3 to move forward.
