Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin (GHC-SCW) will stop offering alternative medicine services such as acupuncture and massage therapy at the end of the year, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
GHC has historically provided the services for its members, charging discounted fees, but is ending the program as those services are now widely available elsewhere. The fees GHC charged its members for alternative medicine services covered only around half the cost of the program, which has lost as much as $1 million annually.
GHC is also investing further in behavioral health services moving forward. Next month, it will begin intensive, at-home behavioral services for children with autism who are members.
Further, GHC has expanded its GHC Foundations Intensive Outpatient Program for mental health patients transitioning to the community following inpatient stays, or people who need more therapy than regular outpatient visits can provide. The program can now take up to 16 patients and is open to people insured by GHC, Quartz, Dean, and The Alliance.
