A Fresh Mart grocery store this March is set to open its second Madison-area location inside the former Whole Foods Market space on University Avenue, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The small grocer, which sells international foods, currently has a Sun Prairie location at 531 A St. that opened in 2020.
Owner Yashar Tairov and his spouse, Saniya Tairova, also run the Istanbul Supermarket and Cafe on South Gammon Road.
The new Fresh Mart Madison spot will offer 30,000 square feet of space. Roughly one-third of the store’s inventory will come from international suppliers, and it will hire 40–50 employees. The grocer plans to include a cafeteria, a bar for hot premade foods, a smoothie bar, a salad bar, and a space for sitting. The store is currently expected to be open daily from 8 a.m.–9 p.m.
