As part of the recent approval of the 2023–2027 Transportation Improvement Program for the Madison area and Dane County, the Greater Madison MPO approved $8.49 million for roadway projects and one transit project, and another $2.14 million for bicycle/pedestrian projects.
Traffic/road projects awarded funding are:
- CTH M (Oncken Road to STH 113) — Reconstruction and expansion to a four-lane, divided cross-section with intersection improvements, bike lanes, multiuse path, and spot lighting;
- John Nolen Drive (Lakeside St. to N. Shore Drive) — Reconstruct John Nolen Drive and the bridges along it with an expanded multiuse path, reconstruction of the shoreline, and storm sewer and street lighting improvements;
- N. Thompson Road (St. Albert the Great Drive to W. Main St.) and St. Albert the Great Drive (CTH C to N. Thompson Road) — Replace the pavement on these streets, add bike lanes, add a multiuse path on a section of St. Albert the Great Drive, and add signals and signs for improved safety;
- N. Bird Street (STH 19/Windsor St. to USH 151) — Reconstruct the street, expand the west side sidewalk to a multiuse path, and add a protected two-way bicycle lane on the USH 151 bridge;
- Nichols Avenue (Winnequah Road to Monona Drive) — Replace the pavement on the street, realign street intersection, improve pedestrian crossings, and add pedestrian signals;
- Windsor Road (Charlie Grimm Road to CTH CV) — Replace pavement on street, replace one sidewalk with a multiuse path, and add a traffic signal;
- S. Fourth Street (Milwaukee St. to Isham St.) — Reconstruct the street and add a multiuse path on the east side; and
- Fitchburg Bus Shelters — Install eight new bus shelters on Fish Hatchery Road, in the Allied Drive area, and on Anton Drive/Fitchrona Road in conjunction with improved bus service in 2023.
Bicycle/pedestrian projects awarded funding:
- 2023-20226 Dane County Safe Routes to School Program;
- City of Madison BCycle Expansion;
- City of Fitchburg BCycle Expansion;
- N. Bird Street Path;
- Badger Rusk Path;
- Madison Safe Routes to School Plan;
- Yahara River Trail Extension Plan; and
- Sun Prairie Vision Zero Action Plan.
