A $1.5 million grant from the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Movember Foundation will help Madison Vaccines get one of its prostate cancer vaccines into a clinical trial at UW-Madison.

If it gets approval from the FDA, the company plans to test a vaccine combining two of its products — one that keeps cancer cells from hiding and another that stimulates patients’ immune systems to fight cancer cells — on about 30 male patients whose prostate cancer has spread. The grant was awarded to Dr. Douglas McNeel, UW associate professor of medicine in hematology/oncology.
