Madison’s Urban Design Commission gave initial approval to a grocery store for the Grandview Commons neighborhood. The issue has been controversial because of its size (58,000 sq. ft.), which residents argue does not conform to the new urbanist policy that attracted them to the area in the first place. Since first approved in March, the store’s design has reportedly undergone tweaks to bring it more in line with neighborhood concerns.
