With more and more grandparents and extended family members raising children these days, Gorman & Co. and Lutheran Social Services have proposed a $12.5 million housing development across from Union Corners designed for extended families, from seniors to toddlers, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

Plans call for 59 lower-cost and market rate units and about 65 underground parking spaces to be located near the intersection of East Washington Avenue and Milwaukee Streets. Apartments would offer two or three bedrooms.

Lutheran Social Services would provide support services within the two-building complex. The city ($950,000) and WHEDA ($8.1 in federal tax credits) are providing financial backing.

If approved, Gorman would like to start construction in spring.
