Gov. Evers unsure of repealing 400-year veto amid property tax relief talks

A veto Gov. Tony Evers made about three years ago increased annual per pupil funding for schools each year until 2425, and Republican legislators want it repealed, the Cap Times reports.

“I don’t know,” Evers said when the paper asked about undoing the veto. “We need to get more money into the property tax (relief), that will help our schools. I’d like to hear what (Assembly Speaker Robin Vos) has to say about that personally.

The “400-year” veto, as it is often referred to, was brought up by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos after Evers began plans to discuss property tax relief.

A rise in property taxes has both Democrats and Republicans searching for a solution.
