Union Corners, an $80 million development that’s been in the works since 2007, could finally be on the way to completion. Gorman & Co. has proposed the latest iteration of The Nexus, a mixed-use building at the corner at East Washington Avenue and Milwaukee Street.

An earlier four-story design proposed last February failed to impress neighbors.

The latest version, a $24 million, five-story project, would include 75 market-rate apartments and 15,400 square feet of ground-level retail space, according to a Wisconsin State Journal story. Gorman & Co. hopes to break ground this summer on The Nexus and open it in the fall of 2021.

The east side development includes a $20 million UW Health Union Corners medical clinic, completed in 2016; Carbon at Union Corners, a $20.5 million, four-story mixed-use project with 90 apartments, on track to be completed next year; and Generations at Union Corners, a $15 million, three-story building offering 60 mixed-income apartments for grandparents and others raising extended-family members.
