According to the Wisconsin State Journal, a GOP-controlled legislative committee today approved 6% wage increases over the next two years for nearly all state employees except for University of Wisconsin staff.
The move follows Assembly Speaker Robin Vos’ statement in September that the universities will not receive raises until they have cut diversity, equity, and inclusion positions from their staff. UW has said it will not eliminate DEI and maintains the vitality of DEI staff and programming.
The employment relations committee’s inaction on UW pay raises was not universally backed by Republicans and faced heavy criticism from Democrats. It also comes as UW employees have repeatedly called for the committee’s approval of the pay bumps.
