Google has agreed to a $391.5 million settlement with 40 states in connection with an investigation into how the company tracked users’ locations, according to a report from the Associated Press. The settlement is the largest multistate privacy settlement in U.S. history. As one of the 40 states named, Wisconsin expects to receive $8,421,918.67 through the settlement.
The investigation by the states was spurred by a 2018 Associated Press story that found that Google continued to track people’s location data even after they opted out of such tracking. The Associated Press reported that Google services on Android devices and iPhones store your location data even if you’ve used a privacy setting that says it will prevent Google from doing so.
