Registration for the Goodman Center’s annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive opens next week and the demand for the program is expected to be higher than in year’s past, according to the Center. The registration period for families to sign up for the Thanksgiving Basket Drive, which helps them make their own Thanksgiving meals at home, is Oct. 12–23. The goal of the 2020 program is to provide 4,000 meals.

The need for this year’s program is expected to be higher because of a surge in demand, as the Goodman Center’s Fritz Food Pantry saw a 300% increase in demand in the weeks following the start of the COVID-19, and that demand has not slowed. Additionally, Second Harvest Food Bank, which serves food pantries across the country, issued a report that predicted a 60% increase in food insecurity nationwide. Financial donations for the program are being accepted online and food drives are being organized through the Goodman Center.
