Following the County Board’s rejection of Rep. Shelia Stubbs for director of the Department of Human Services, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi appointed Gloria Reyes co-deputy director on Tuesday, the Capital Times reports.

Reyes, also a former Madison mayoral candidate, will share duties with Astra Iheukumere, interim department director. As co-deputy, Reyes will not be required to obtain County Board approval or go through the typical confirmation hearings.

Reyes has made several statements in support of Stubbs’ prior nomination and criticized Stubbs’ treatment by the County Board; reception of Reyes’ appointment has been mixed.
