How long have you been at Wegner, Glenn, and what is your day-to-day role in the organization?
I have been with Wegner my entire career (since 1990). As managing partner, I am responsible for day-to-day management of the firm, development of staff, growth of the business, and strategic planning.
Who, outside the firm, has influenced your career the most, and in what way?
Without question, my wife, Kim. She is truly a resource for me to run ideas by and vent to, and she is a great supporter. Had it not been for Kim, I would not have been nearly as successful as I have been in my career.
You sound like a family-oriented person.
I have a great wife and two wonderful children. My happiness mostly comes from spending time with Kim and my sons, Jordan and Corey. My oldest son is a freshman at UW-Madison and my youngest a sophomore at Verona High School. As a family, we enjoy traveling, golfing, and just hanging out.
What was a career high point?
Seeing Jenny Tarkowski, whom I hired, worked with, and mentored, be admitted to the firm as a partner. It is so nice to see great people like Jenny be successful.
When you were in high school, what were your career aspirations?
I hoped to be a major league baseball player or a police officer.
Quite a detour you took! Your very first paycheck: From where, how much, and what did you do with it?
CJs Restaurant, which was at the time in the Westgate Mall and is now out of business. I am not sure how much my first check was for, but I undoubtedly spent it on something related to my 1964 Rambler.
Travel? Do you have a favorite location?
Our family has traveled a lot over the years, and we enjoy Arizona, San Diego, and the East Coast. My favorite place is probably St. Maarten because of the laid-back atmosphere, blue waters, and nice people. It is also really cool to have a 747 flying only 50 feet or so over your head, with a cold Corona in your hand.

What do you do, alone and without family, and beyond the office, that brings you happiness or relaxation?
Work out. Over my career, I gained about 40 pounds, which I have recently shed. Running and lifting weights gives me a chance to relax, think about things, and work off steam.
What is something most people wouldn’t know about you – something that might not usually come up in conversation?
A little known fact about me is that I was a batboy for the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants during spring training in the 1970s.
Way cool! Now, new topic: Do you read for pleasure?
I do a lot of reading, but it is mostly technical in nature. I really need to read some good books.
What about book characters or real-life characters? Any you’d like to emulate in some way?
Jackie Robinson. He was a leader, an inspiration, and a great baseball player. I cannot imagine the challenges and adversity he faced, and he continued to perform at such a high level.
You described him really well. Now, how are you at describing yourself? Can you think of three words to do that?
Demanding, fair, and funny.
