Girls on the Run of South Central Wisconsin is launching one of the largest seasons in its history this spring.
Approximately 1,260 girls in grades 3–8 are participating at 75 program sites across nine counties.
Girls on the Run combines physical activity with research-based lessons designed to help girls build confidence and strengthen relationships.
The 9-week season is filled with non-competitive 5K run/walk and learning.
“At a time when girls are facing increasing pressures and declining confidence, programs like Girls on the Run are more important than ever,” Christine Benedict, executive director of Girls on the Run South Central Wisconsin, said in a statement. “We are seeing record participation because families are looking for spaces where girls can feel a true sense of belonging and build the skills they need to thrive.”
This season includes teams from Madison, Sun Prairie, Cambria-Friesland, Cambridge, Columbus, Edgerton, Beloit, Verona, Dodgeville, Middleton-Cross Plains, Fennimore, Oregon, Sauk Prairie, Monona, DeForest, Waunakee, Beaver Dam, Lake Mills, Marshall, Mount Horeb, Milton, Monroe, Fort Atkinson, Stoughton, McFarland and Jefferson.
