Video game retailer GameStop has offered to purchase eBay.
GameStop’s Chief Executive Ryan Cohen made an unsolicited offer of $56 billion for the online auction and fixed-price marketplace.
Cohen told The Wall Street Journal on Sunday that “eBay should be worth — and will be worth — a lot more money. I’m thinking about turning eBay into something worth hundreds of billions of dollars.”
EBay responded on Monday morning by saying its board and financial advisers would review GameStop’s proposal.
EBay was valued at around $46 billion ahead of the offer, and its shares rose around 9% Monday in premarket trading after the offer news.
GameStop is valued at around $12 billion.
