Former Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County CEO Michael Johnson will be remembered at a “Life and Legacy Celebration” on June 19 at High Point Church, 7702 Old Sauk Road. A visitation begins at 11 a.m., with the funeral service running from noon to 2 p.m.
“Michael’s impact on our youth, families, staff and community will never be forgotten,” a Boys & Girls Clubs statement said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to come together to honor a life dedicated to serving others.”
A visitation will also take place a day before, on June 18, from 3-7 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Allied Family Center at 4619 Jenewein Road in Fitchburg.
Johnson unexpectedly died on June 7 at the age of 50.
He was a tireless advocate for kids, spent the last 17 years at the helm of the BGCDC, and “significantly contributed to the organization by transforming it from a local children’s charity into a powerful change agent for children and families,” according to its website.
Johnson championed BGCDC’s AVID/TOPS program, a college readiness program offered in partnership with the Madison Metropolitan School District to students in middle and high school. He also led the $35 million fundraising campaign for the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center, the largest workforce center in the history of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which trains students in the skilled trades.
