The State Building Commission agreed to release $15 million for the planning and design portion of Gov. Tony Evers’ plan to reorganize the Wisconsin prison system, according to a Wisconsin Public Radio report.

Evers’ plan is a mult-step proposal, which would eventually close the Green Bay Correctional Institution.

Republicans oppose Evers’ proposal to reduce the capacity of Wisconsin’s prison system by 700 beds.
