The Madison School Board on Monday reversed its plan to cut Operation Fresh Start funding from its 2023–24 budget, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The program funding will instead be fully restored, adding $117,000 back into the budget.
Operation Fresh Start offers education and career experiences for Madison youth and young adults through its nine programs. One provides low-cost driver’s education; others help students gain hands-on experience working at construction sites and on Dane County parks conservation projects. The school’s partnership with Operation Fresh Start for its legacy program provides an alternative education option for adults ages 16–24 to earn a high school diploma and get work experience.
Operation Fresh Start will continue enrollment year-round, offering students the opportunity to learn and work outside of the traditional school year calendar.
