Dane County homeless shelters are contending with increased need following Friday’s snowstorm and ensuing extremely low temperatures, WKOW reports. Madison’s Porchlight Men’s Shelter has about 305 clients — its highest number ever — and has nearly reached capacity every night.

Organizations like Porchlight are seeking community support through donations to continue providing shelter for those in need. Items like warm clothes and hygiene items are particularly critical. Porchlight also provides case managers to help guests obtain housing.

The Salvation Army of Dane County operates the largest emergency shelter for women and the largest family shelter.
