Friends of San Damiano, a nonprofit focused on transforming Monona’s San Damiano property into a public space for recreation and programming, is set to hire its first executive director, WMTV15 reports. The role will be responsible for leading fundraising efforts and overseeing the future development of the property.

Improvements included in the multiphase San Damiano transformation plan total up to $14 million. The recent news follows the city of Monona and the nonprofit’s approval of a new memorandum of understanding agreement, wherein the city will retain property ownership, and the organization will spearhead operations, programming, and fundraising.

The executive director role will be partially funded by a $50,000 grant from the Madison Community Foundation.
