With Affordable Care Act premiums in Wisconsin expected to increase an average of 17.4% next year, free clinics are expecting an influx of patients, Wisconsin Public Radio reports.
It is estimated that over 270,000 Wisconsin residents rely on ACA tax credits to afford insurance.
The credits will most likely expire at the end of the month. Congress will need to vote to renew it, and it was the main issue Democrats held on to during the federal government shutdown before giving in to Republicans to reopen the government and agreeing to possibly vote on it later.
KFF, an independent agency for health policy research, reported that a quarter of those enrolled with government subsidies for health care said they were “very likely” to go without insurance if their premiums doubled.
