Foxconn Technology Group has agreed to assemble electric vehicles for California-based startup Fisker, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. Taipei-based Foxconn’s factory in Mount Pleasant was originally planned for the production of flat screens but as yet has not reached full production.
The partnership between Foxconn and Fisker will produce more than 250,000 vehicles a year under the deal, but it is uncertain where the manufacturing will be based. Fisker Chief Executive Henrik Fisker said there is a very good chance initial production will be in the U.S., in part because of Foxconn’s factory in Wisconsin. A final decision has not been made.
