Four entrepreneurs received the UW–Madison Chancellor’s Entrepreneurial Achievement Awards for their contributions to the local startup economy, according to a release from the university. B. Lynn Allen-Hoffmann, Jim Bakke, Valarie King-Bailey, and Scott Resnick received the honors on March 23 at a ceremony held at the Discovery Building.
Lynn Allen-Hoffmann founded Stratatech to develop a cell-based therapeutic treatment for burn victims using a unique skin cell line discovered in her laboratory at UW–Madison. Alumni Jim Bakke, president and CEO of Sub-Zero Group Inc., transformed a family-owned business into an industry leader with vision, risk-taking, and innovation based on emerging technology, science, and design. Valarie King-Bailey (’82) is the founder and CEO of OnShore Technology Group in Chicago, which last year was listed as one of America’s fastest-growing private companies by achieving 71% growth during the pandemic. Scott Resnick (’09) is the visionary and driving force behind the formation and successful launch of the StartingBlock Madison entrepreneurial hub, which helps drive Madison’s burgeoning startup economy.
