A new report from the AOL-Huffington Post financial news site 24/7 Wall St. ranks the nation’s drunkest cities, based on surveys asking people in metro areas how much they drink.
The results, from the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a joint program of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation surveys, found that Appleton is the drunkest city in the nation, followed by Oshkosh-Neenah (#2), Green Bay(#3), Madison (#4), La Crosse (#6), and Fond du Lac (#7) in the top 10. Milwaukee came in at #17.
The survey asked people if they were binge drinkers (men: five or more drinks in one sitting; women: four or more drinks in one sitting), or heavy drinkers (men: 15 or more drinks per week; women: eight or more drinks per week).
In fact, 12 Wisconsin cities made the top 20. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 37% of traffic-related crashes statewide involve alcohol.
