The former property manager of east side Madison apartment complex The Harmony has been fired after being linked to a recent homicide and a shooting, according to NBC15. The former property manager has denied the existence of such a link, which was detailed in an email from a city attorney to Royal Capital, The Harmony’s owner.
The email was sent the day after a 15-year-old was shot and killed outside the complex on Oct. 10. Another shooting had occurred just weeks before at the same complex, as had another homicide less than four months prior.
The city attorney’s email outlined “immediate steps” aimed at preventing further shootings or homicides at The Harmony. The former property manager’s name was redacted from the email, but the Madison Police Department confirmed that the former property manager was the employee that the city attorney recommended for termination and said was linked to the homicide and separate shooting. Royal Capital said the employee was fired on Oct. 13.
The terminated employee has disputed the claim that she is linked to the violence and has said she is being used as a scapegoat for underlying issues at the complex. She said she does not place blame on police or the property owners and maintains they have worked together to prevent violence as a team.
