The former accounting manager for Madison’s Sun Peak Solar was charged Thursday with embezzling almost $180,000 from the company over her five months of employment there this year, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Sabrina L. Stout, 26, of Loganville, was charged with theft in a business setting over $100,000 in a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court. According to a police investigation, Stout took $159,000 in unearned bonuses during her time at Sun Peak Solar and used the company debit card for $19,532 in personal purchases.
The criminal complaint states that the company owner and president on Oct. 11 reported to police that the company’s previous account manager — who was still doing some part-time work for Sun Peak Solar — had discovered the unauthorized bonuses, taken during Stout’s last three months of employment. Upon confrontation, Stout admitted the scheme.
After being fired, Stout admitted taking the bonuses to pay medical bills, credit card debt, and student loan debt, and using the debit card for purchases like laser hair removal, plastic surgery, specialized health care sessions, and other medical bills.
Her court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 7.
