A former music director at Madison’s St. Maria Goretti Catholic School was charged last Tuesday with the sexual assault of a minor while he was director of the Milwaukee Children’s Choir, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Marco Melendez, 29, who faces two felony counts of child enticement in Milwaukee County Circuit Court and one felony county of third-degree sexual assault.
The alleged incidents occurred in 2017 and 2019, before Melendez was employed by the Diocese of Madison in 2020. According to a diocesan statement, he voluntarily left that job in 2023, and diocesan and parish officials were reportedly not aware of any former sexual misconduct or impropriety while Melendez was employed at the Madison parish.
