Signs of cracks in the housing markets may be appearing as foreclosures increased in October after sitting at historic lows in recent years, according to a CNBC report.
There were 36,766 U.S. properties with some type of foreclosure filing in October. These include default notices or bank repossession.
That number is a 3% increase from September and 19% increase from October 2024, in overall foreclosure types.
More specifically, foreclosure starts rose 6% and are 20% higher than the year before. Completed foreclosures are up 32% from the same time last year.
Florida, South Carolina and Illinois led the nation in state foreclosure filings. Texas, California and Florida had the most completed foreclosures.
