Fitchburg officials recently held a sixth informational session for a future police facility that they say is long overdue, according to a report from WMTV15.
“Our facility as it currently stands is inadequate and was actually inadequate in 2014,” Deputy Chief Matthew Laha said.
Officials are cognizant of the costs to local residents for the estimated $49 million project, but note that can’t impede the sorely needed facility.
“I think that the resounding concern from citizens is the cost and we completely recognize that as a police department and planning team,” Laha said. “We also recognize as we push the project down the road those costs are going to increase.”
The facility would be located at the intersection of Fish Hatchery and Lacy roads. The Fitchburg Common Council is slated to consider a resolution to approve the design and budget at its Feb. 13 meeting.
