The city of Fitchburg and its police department have scheduled four meetings at the start of the new year to discuss plans for a new police services facility, according to Channel3000. The standalone building will aim to meet city staffing and space needs.
Located at the northeast corner of Lacy Road and Research Park Drive, the facility will be 74,560 square feet and cost between $40 million and $49.2 million, depending on whether sustainability features and other design aspects are included. Fitchburg’s latest capital improvement plan included $35 million in funding for the facility. The new building will have more space for evidence storage and processing, additional office areas, and improved storage for vehicles, electronics, and equipment.
The public informational meetings are scheduled as follows:
- Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Catholic Multicultural Center from 6–8 p.m.;
- Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Park Bank Center from 6–8 p.m.;
- Thursday, Jan. 4, at Fitchburg Fire Station No. 3 and virtually from 7–9 p.m.; and
- Saturday, Jan. 6, at Blackhawk Church, 5935 Astor Dr., from 1–3 p.m.
 The Common Council will evaluate the schematic design on Jan. 9.
