According to the Capital Times, the new Madison Film Festival will take place Aug. 26 at the Bartell Theatre. The festival gives aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to screen their films before an audience.
The festival is unrelated to the Wisconsin Film Festival from UW–Madison’s Department of Communication Arts, which accepts submissions from films and filmmakers with a connection to Wisconsin in addition to its programming of classic, foreign, and independent films. Most of the programming is work by established filmmakers.
The Madison Film Festival is more generally accessible, instead built entirely from submissions via online site FilmFreeway. Festival organizers say they received over 500 submissions from filmmakers worldwide before the July 15 deadline.
Categories for the festival will include Best Screenplay, Best Horror Movie, Best Animation Film, Best Music Video, and many others. Winners will be awarded cash prizes between $100–$1,000.
Tickets for the daylong festival are available for purchase online, as are passes that include access to festival-related parties.
