The Madison Fire Department (MFD) was dispatched to 1415 Engineering Drive, Engineering Hall, on the UW–Madison campus at 7:33 a.m. today for an alarm investigation, according to a city of Madison fire report.
Upon firefighters’ arrival, UWPD officers confirmed a fire on the fifth floor of the building. MFD sent additional fire crews to the scene, and the fire was knocked down at 7:49 a.m. Fire crews continue to clear smoke out from the building. Everyone was evacuated from the building safely. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
According to UW–Madison, all classes at Engineering Hall have been canceled, and the building is anticipated to remain closed all day. Additional information will be provided to students and staff via email.
Motorists passing through the campus area should expect traffic delays during this time.
