Kenneth J. Braithwaite is Fincanieri Marinette Marine’s new board of directors chairman.

“It is a pleasure and a privilege to welcome Ambassador Braithwaite into the FMM Board of Directors as chairman,” said Fincantieri Marine Group CEO George Moutafis. “His unique experience and vantage point on our Navy’s and nation’s needs will prove invaluable, and we are fortunate to have him.”

Braithwaite is a 1984 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and earned a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a naval aviator and public affairs officer on the USS American.

He became an ambassador to Norway and was sworn in as the 77th secretary of the Navy in 2020, following his service as the 31st U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway, during President Donald Trump’s first administration.

FMM is a government construction shipyard with locations in Marinette, Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay.

Recently, the shipyard lost a government contract to build Constellation-class frigate warships. The Trump administration canceled the project after only two ships were finished of the four to 20-ship project.

The project was worth $5.6 billion when awarded in April 2020.
