Statewide home sales finished strong at the end of 2019, but tight inventory keeps driving prices up.
In Dane County, according to the latest report from the Wisconsin Realtors Association, December’s median sale price was at $290,000, up $20,000 from December 2018. The number of homes sold across the county increased 24.9 percent year to year in December, but inventory compared to the previous year fell 12 percent.
For all of 2019, Dane County’s median price grew 6.3 percent to $297,500 and the number of homes sold (8,211) fell 1.3 percent compared to 2018 when 8,322 homes were sold.
“Moving into a new decade, the U.S. economy continues to grow and it looks like the trade wars are finally winding down,” notes WRA President/CEO Mike Theo in a release. That should keep the country out of a 2020 recession, but a lack of inventory on the supply side continues to keep demand (and prices) up.
