The number of Wisconsin early stage companies receiving investment capital in 2017 dropped by 8% compared to 2016, according to “The Wisconsin Portfolio” from the Wisconsin Technology Council.

More than $231 million was raised by at least 127 companies, but that was down from 2016’s record $276 million.

The average deal size decreased year to year, as well, from $2 million in 2016 to $1.82 million in 2017, raising some “mild concern,” although it follows a national trend.
