Several Madison area distilleries – along with others across the nation – are no longer responsible for a $14,600 fee for registering with the FDA to produce hand sanitizer, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.
Distilleries across the country learned they could face the FDA fees for registering and producing the sanitizer when the country was experiencing extreme shortages earlier in the COVID-19 pandemic. After a public outcry, the U.S. Health and Human Services Department announced via Twitter that it would direct the FDA to not charge the fee.
