Assurant Health’s proposed rate increases, as high as 24%, were found to be unreasonably high by federal reviewers, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The pending premium increases, issued by two operating units of the Milwaukee-based Assurant Health, would have impacted more than 42,000 consumers in nine states, the report said.
Under the federal Affordable Care Act, the federal government or state governments review increases in health insurance premiums that exceed 10% per year. The reviews are conducted to determine whether the increases are based on sound data and reasonable assumptions.
Assurant issued a statement saying the proposed increase met the law’s criteria.
