The president’s fiscal 2014 budget includes $300 million for the Lakes Restoration Initiative to support research and cleanup projects for the Great Lakes. In the past, the federal funding has supported research projects in eight states to remove contaminated sediments, restore wildlife habitats, battle invasive species, keep Asian carp at bay, and reduce phosphorus runoff.
