FDIC numbers show strong 2021 finish for banks

Wisconsin banks finished 2021 with strong FDIC fourth-quarter numbers, according to a statement from the Wisconsin Bankers Association. Total assets were up 8.45% over the prior year from December 2020 to December 2021 and up 1.16% for the quarter ending December 2021 compared to the quarter ending September 2021. Deposits increased 10.88% and noncurrent loans and leases decreased 24.75%, an indication of improving consumer financial health. Residential lending slowed slightly and commercial lending increased only slightly as some businesses had fewer borrowing needs.
